Ponda:Fish vendors at the
Ponda municipality market shifted to a new location on Thursday after the council offered them the necessary facilities. The vendors opposed the civic body’s decision on April 3, citing a lack of proper facilities.
Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) plans to move vendors to the market complex basement. It aims to demolish the old, dilapidated fish market built in 1984 before it collapses.
The PMC has even made a space outside the fish market, but vendors told municipal officers that it lacked proper water facilities for hygiene.
Vendors met PMC chairperson Anand Naik, who assured them he would convene a council meeting to find a solution. Accordingly, the council provided water and lighting arrangements before relocating the vendors.
With vendors shifted, PMC can demolish the old market. However, the council has no plan for a new market soon, and the current location is a temporary arrangement until it is built.
